Rachel Nicholson, LSW

Hi, I’m Rachel

Psychotherapist at Head First Health.

“We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are.”

Hey! I’m Rachel Nicholson a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Psychotherapist, and I could not be more excited to work with you! I know what it feels like to be scared to take the first step; to go through the hard work in order to grow. Because of that, it makes me the therapist I am today. Empathetic, understanding, and compassionate. These qualities are what I bring into our sessions in order to support you in becoming the best version of yourself. I want you to feel comfortable enough to share anything that comes to mind without any fear or judgement–knowing that we are in this together.

I specialize in treating OCD, anxiety, and panic disorder by using exposure & response prevention, cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness. I encourage my clients to face their fears and challenge negative thinking–so that YOU are the one in charge, not your anxiety. We work to shift your thoughts & perception so that anxiety no longer runs your life.

Throughout the years this has looked like:

  • Graduating with my Bachelors in Psychology from Michigan State University

  • Graduating with my Masters of Social Work from the University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign

  • Obtaining my LCSW

  • Completing an internship at an intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization program at a large behavioral health hospital

  • Working with those who struggle with OCD, Anxiety, Depression, Self-esteem, and Relationship issues.

My style: Compassionate, Down-to-earth, Passionate, & Goal-focused.

My Framework: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, & Solution Focused Therapy.

Fast Facts: In my free time you can find me doing too much online shopping, spending quality time with my loved ones, eating yummy Italian food (mostly pasta and bread yum!), working out, reading my horoscope (Sagittarius baby) or watching anything true crime.
